Karl Lagerfeld has called Adele 'too fat'.

Music superstar Adele has some of the most loyal and dedicated fans in the music business, so we wouldn't want to be Karl Lagerfeld right now.

The German fashion designer recently caused outrage amongst Adele's fans, as he labelled the singer as being 'a little too fat.' We would run to the hills if we were him!

He made the comments while he was guest editing the New York Metro in Paris, in which he revealed that he preferred Adele's music to newcomer Lana del Rey's. However, his compliment towards Adele was swiftly turned into an insult when he made a dig at the singer's weight - he said:

"I prefer Adele and Florence Welch. But as a modern singer she is not bad. The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice."

The fashion designer, who is the head designer and creative director of Chanel, has since faced a backlash from Adele's fans who have branded him as being 'mean' on twitter.

One fan tweeted: "I worship Karl Lagerfeld but those Adele comments are not on. So mean! No need for that."

Despite the harsh words from Karl Lagerfeld, we doubt that Adele will be fazed too much. In the past, she has spoken out about not obsessing over her image and revealed in an interview with Cosmopolitan magazine:

"It [her weight] has just never been an issue - at least, I've never hung out with the sort of horrible people who make it an issue. I have insecurities of course, but I don't hang out with anyone who points them out to me."

The singer also famously said in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine: "I don't make music for eyes, I make music for ears." We hope that Karl Lagerfeld's comments don't change Adele's healthy attitude to her body image!

This is why I hate pop music, it's so inextricably linked to image.
If you listen to music (pop in this case) because you hate yourself, find yourself disgusting and want to escape that by wallowing in airbrushed images of pretty popstars;
then you're not listening to music.
You're buying into an image and you're an idiot.
Modern pop music is rape of music in general, it even rapes concepts!
Concepts such as love.
It takes all the magic and fun out of sex.
You only to see videos by some of the small time wannabe girl bands on youtube to see how pops message is interpreted by its audience.
For example - Pound on my muffin by Shira (I think)
What's really sad is that an entire generation think these artists and bands are all there is, they've never been inclined to really investigate music, to find artists and bands that REALLY excite them.
And I'm not just talking about plastic pop anymore, all the bands that are easily accessible from Bombay Bicycle Club to The Horrors, Lana Del Ray to The Vaccines, it's all so cool, by which I mean boring and contrived.
Everybody went ape**** for Adele, and I get told off when I have a go at her by my friends, as if I'm being blasphemous.
It's amazing how heavily influenced people are when the NME declare yet another average band as "Jaw dropping", "Iconic" and my favourite: "The most exciting band since Nirvana".
But Adele is none of those things, she's really average, sure she's got a nice voice, not my cup of tea but yeah whatever...
So what if she co writes some of her own songs?
Oh my god she's producing her next album?
All by herself?
With no help from parents?
There are thousands of artists who write the songs, play all the instruments, produce all the albums and never get a look in because their music is too challenging.
Or too honest perhaps.
I don't know, what's wrong with us?
The same thing happens in film, Hollywood keeps churning out formulaic crap which casts a shadow over independent cinema and some of the beautiful, thought provoking, inspiring, enlightening, and yes, challenging films that it produces.
And we keep lapping it up.
I'd better wrap this up, chances are no-ones managed to summon the attention span to read this far and I'm ranting anyway.
I'm ranting because I'm passionate about these things, I think they are far more important than anyone gives credit to.
But passion seems to make people a little uncomfortable these days as well.
We're all doomed.
I'm off to chuck myself off the roof with a picture of Munch's The Scream tied to my back.

Dawn, I`m sure she SHALL care. Remember, all of those luvvy so called "Celebs" thrive on appearance. What I`m NOT to sure of is this another "Old Pals act" to get HIM a reputation for more coverage and visa versa? If I had my way I`d line them ALL up against a wall. FAR to much power as to what happens in everyday life especially amongst the young and the gullible!

With my last comment getting 7 thumbs down compared to just 1 thumbs up it appears that there are a lot of fat Women posting on this thread....my comments are based on cold, hard fact, they are not merely intended to upset anyone.

Maybe thats the reason why there are so many fat folks these days?,these same people are the ones who are too weak to actually try to discipline themselves to eating the right type of foods in the right quantities to keep slim, fit and healthy?

Adele is FAT and in all likelihood will get FATTER and fatter as she ages, unless she opts for a gastric band or some such technological medical procedure, even if she does that she will be slim but malnourished as drastically reducing food and nutrient consumption will inevitably result in a weakened state physically.

AS FAR AS WEIGHT CONTROL IS CONCERNED YOU SIMPLY CANNOT BEAT SELF DISCIPLINE,PLEASE GET THAT INTO YOUR THICK SKULLS PEOPLE

Adele DEFINITELY IS  obese, not seriously so but will get worse as she ages.It seems she has very poor genes when it comes to her natural level of bodyfat, any wise doctor will tell you that in Women,a bodyfat level of over 30% is clinical obesity, which Adele won't be too far off.

However this doesnt necessarily mean a much shortened lifespan if she keeps it from getting too much worse, there are other deciding factors involved in longevity as well as Bodyfat etc.

The main problem most "big" girls like Adele encounter is that people tell them its ok and that "your still beautiful" or "it doesnt matter, its personality that counts" etc....by underplaying the seriousness of getting fatter and fatter they are giving her the green light to eat herself to an early grave, sometimes they need to be told straight.

Designers only use skinny models so they can scrimp on the amounts of fabric and save money.

Do you think fashion designers FORCE women into the trade? No, the lure of big money is what lures them into the trade. Exactly the same lure that made Adele become a mediocre pop singer. Eating disorders are a late 20th century invention, which are not an illness but a state of mind. Why should it be given any more prominence than drug, cigarette or alcohol addiction? If you don't eat you die, simple. It's not quantum physics

It's people like Victoria Beckham that girls aspire to, aiming to be stick thin in the hope that it will bring them fame and fortune.

Catwalk models are chosen for the modern fashion market. The days of 36-24-36 as the perfect figure are long gone.

Adele is a porker with needs to loose the extra chinsOpen-mouthed

Adele has a lovely figure. It is nice to see a shapely woman rather than the stick insects that now parade around our screens. She looks beautiful and healthy.

He actually wants to take a good long look at himself - oil painting - I think not!!!

@  Andy c yh i do i now know what he does n the image people like him portray to women is wrong how many girls/women have eating disorder or have low self esteem or even commited suicide due to industry hes in, maybe harsh but so is he due to his position within industry he shud never make comment like this. He is far from perfect glass houses and stones.

I don't know where you got that drivel from, but it certainly wasn't from the above article.
How do you expect people to comment, when they don't have a clue what your on about?

l,m sure most people did notice and acknowledge he complimented her voice and face, have heard of him, and do  know what he does for a living, omg as if its a crime not to,  but dont see how its justified referring to her as fat on a public arena for the world to read, anymore than it would be for her to comment on him looking a bit weird or gross, whilst complimenting his clothing range, its not about being non pc, another cliche`d alleged insult oft used as an alternative to debate,  its about him being insulting to someone when unneccessary, the reason why we have increasing  division in society, its not as if she,s applying for a job on his catwalk. so no need for him to comment about her weight,  In the same way as being referred to as uneducated fools who buy at primark, because they dont bow down to the utterings of karl lagerfield  and speak of him as some sort of god to fashion, `worship him` yuk,   fashion is hardly an industry associated with intallect anyway..  Most people are not in a rage about it, may`be some are, yourself included, most are just commenting. So she,s a little overweight, she,s a great singer, writer and performer who will be remembered when he,s forgotten, but she doesnt need him commenting to the world about how` fat `she is,   l,m sure she,s more than aware of it, and sick of hearing about it, might be of more worth if he commented on how many catwalk models and celebs  get and remain slender, re  eating disorders, drug and drink excesses, now  that does cause real misery.

ANDY C - U r very sensible. This is what he said after the Adele issue.

"[Scottish] men are very ugly," Lagerfeld said. "There are a few handsome ones, but there you see beautiful women and the most horrible men."

But Lagerfeld's most baffling comments came in response to a questions about M.I.A.'s bird-flipping.

"Nowadays people give the middle finger quite quickly - it's not the best behavior," Lagerfeld began, sensibly enough.

"Everybody does that, what's new about that? It's just become a bad habit. People in magazines are 50% bimbo and 50% pregnant women."

What??? What does M.I.A.'s halftime show flub have to do with magazines, Adele, bimbo's, and pregnant women?

We're not sure if something was lost in translation here, as the above is from the text of the Q&A printed in Metro's U.S. edition.

Anyone have any clue what Lagerfeld was talking about?
