Singles of the week: 06/02/2012

The biggest singles of the week commencing January 30, 2012 including Maverick Sabre and Madonna featuring M.I.A and Nicki Minaj…

Madonna (© Amazon)

ARTIST: Madonna featuring M.I.A and Nicki Minaj

TITLE: Give Me All Your Luvin'

VERDICT: Feisty femcee princesses M.I.A and Nicki Minaj turn cheerleaders for leader Queen Madge aka Madonna on this fun and funky track as they chant "L-U-V Madonna / Y-O-U you wanna."

The superbowl-themed parts of the accompanying video are a bit naff but all is forgiven as the undeniably Madonna-esque tune is a simple singalong-inducing poptastic dancefloor anthem.

Although it does kinda sound like she's recycled lyrics and melody from elsewhere as she sings "Don't play the stupid game, Cause I'm a different kind of girl / Every record sounds the same, You've got to step into my world."

The text spelling of 'luvin' is a bit cringey and there's definitely not enough rhyme-time from Nicki and M.I.A but overal we're enjoying seeing modern Madonna once again - she's still got it.

Kelly Rowland (© Amazon)

ARTIST: Kelly Rowland featuring Big Sean

TITLE: Lay It On Me

VERDICT: Kelly is looking (and sounding) smokin' hot and so is her troupe of buff men in the video for perky hip-pop-RnB number Lay It On Me.

A strong yet twinkly piano line is teamed with steady hand clap sounds and brings a welcome change of pace from Kelly's more electro-dancey numbers of late.

Playful, grown 'n' sexy is the order of the day as Ms Rowland sings to the person of her sexual affections "And tell your little friends that you're rolling solo / Tonight boy make my body go...oh! / Lay it on me..."

The video features a bit of choreography from Single Ladies mastermind Frank Gatson Jr and Kelly appears in full sassy mode in a few small but perfectly-formed outfits to show off her fit bod - as for Big Sean's verses, we could live without those... Strangely included in the video is a metal slinky, a buff and literally men-made sofa and an elephant - a bit odd but when it comes to Kelly, we're 'down for whatever' and this suggestive yet fun singalong should go crashing into this week's chart top ten.

Maverick Sabre (© Amazon)

ARTIST: Maverick Sabre

TITLE: No One

VERDICT: The Amy Winehouse comparisons really seem to ring true on No One, the latest track from Maverick Sabre, the third to be released from his highly-anticipated debut album, Lonely Are The Brave.

The mellow soulful, jazzy, reggae-tinged vibe gets your toe-tapping and fingers snapping from the off and his velvety vocal catches your ear instantly too.

Hopefully you don't relate to the song's tale of a cheating partner but it makes an engaging rhymeful story packed with an addictive melody nonetheless "No one, else can dry these tears... when I kiss you on your cheating lips / All I ever picture is you with him".

The perfect third single to show off the diverse range of sounds and lyrics Mav is able to put his unique voice to - though will he finally crack the top ten with this single following his numerous new year accolades? Or will it send his album to chart success? We think so...

Following a worldwide big-budget promo campaign, this week's number one is likely to be: Madonna with Give Me All Your Luvin'

He's not got as big a budget but we like him just as much so our money will be spent this week on: Maverick Sabre's No One
