Atomic Kitten are back!
First Girls Aloud announce they're back for good via Nadine Coyle telling the Sunday Mirror: "It's time to come back. At the end of the year it would have been ten years and it feels like the right time to regroup. I know everyone's been speculating about what we will do. It will be arena dates at the start of next year and we will have new music to go with it."
And now there's been confirmation that Atomic Kitten are also plotting a return! Hooray.
Rumours surfaced a few weeks ago saying the threesome were going to be the UK entry for Eurovision, but those whispers were scuppered when Engelbert Humperdinck was announced as the entry.
Now, however, Natasha Hamilton has confirmed the girls are definitely getting back together AND that they may even include Kerry Katona in their reunion.
Natasha told the Daily Star: "I ran into Kerry recently and we just hugged and got on really well. We both have kids around the same age so we talked a lot about them. It was lovely to see her. It would be great if we could all get on stage and sing together. We're really excited about getting back together and singing again. We've all been doing our own thing but we thought the time was right to reform. I think it will be fun to go on tour to perform for a whole new generation of fans. A lot of our fans will have kids now so it would be great if they can both come along to watch us and enjoy our music. We're open to all options at the moment."
With all of this girlband goodness in the air, we look at our top pick of girlbands for the last 20 years! See how Girls Aloud and Atomic Kitten fare, and who our number one choice is!

Best girl bands of the last 20 years ?????????????
Little mix ?????????????????
You are having a laugh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi,
Sorry to say the best girl band to date. Was in fact Bananarama. Whilst they did not have a UK number 1, they have had the most hit singles for an original line up and are in the Guinness book of records beating the legendary Supremes!
They was the original Girl Power and marketed themselves, managed themselves, and was not a put together group like all the acts listed above.
Just did a quick check on the net !!!
Do all you UK guys realise that if you go to MSN USA they are allowed to comment on EVERY STORY !!!
Not just the tittle tattle bubble gum crap that we get stuffed with ???
SEEMS WE ARE NOT ALLOWED THE SAME FREEDOM OF SPEECH AS AMERICAN'S
What a load of crap..! Little Mix. LOL.. Girl bands. LOL ..Just a load of talentless wonders or as they say in chav land " Ma liddle moofins" as we all know bands play instruments, plastic girl groups mime to cover songs . What a legacy for any young person to look up to , the year of the girl band ..! More like the day the music died..!
Sorry but I don't think Little Mix have a 'hope in hell's' chance of going down as one of the best girl bands,
- worst maybe?
Poptsastic article btw!
To everyone questioning why Little Mix are on the list - they're not. The intro text quite clearly says "Little Mix and co will have a long way to go before they emulate the top girl bands of the last two decades"
They are heading up the piece because MSN predicted that 2012 will be the year of the girl band based on their X Factor success.
To people complaining about the absence of the Supremes, Shangrilas etc..., this is a list of girl bands of the last 20 years. Although you could make an argument that Bananarama should be here (and many people have), their first single was 30 years ago.
And finally, to all the complaints about these all being 'manufactured' bands, so what? The phrase 'girl band', in the sense that it's the female equivalent of 'boy band', refers to a genre made up largely (although not entirely) of groups put together by managers.
You don't have to have written, produced, or indeed played a note to make good pop music. Ask Elvis Presley.
Hi MSN, I completely have to disagree with your list .... next time just run a poll to actually capture the MSN's user views and then research the top 10 in those results.
Also, please get someone to monitor these comments - i feel sorry for those under 18 who read these things getting sex shoved into their faces because someone cant be bothered to remove inappropriate comments.
Finally, Little Mix ... Honestly, how can you make the top twenty when they have only existed 2 months!!!!
How many of these 'Girl Bands' actually wrote their own music, played the instruments or produced the track.....umm none.
What a load of sh.te. Tina Hart, you're an idiot with a desperation for good journalism but still couldn't find your own head with two hands.
Well done to all those who have commented about the severe lack of Bananarama in this article. I would also like to add The Supremes and The Shangri-Las.
I’d like to think that the excellent L7, Babes In Toyland, The Runaways, Girlschool, The Slits and The Donnas would be a little insulted to be thrown in to a list dominated by manufactured drivel. What’s that you say? Women. Playing guitars and writing their own songs? Whatever next?!
